Asking Edwin about the Pantaky matter and did he get his money. Wants to get together with Mrs. Markham and virgil for a social reunion. He read his poem on Alfred Noyes that appeared in the Current Literature. He and Mrs. Rooney discussed it. It lifted him up.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
